Running into Changes

About a month ago my friend had talked me into running a 5k race with her; a 5k is 3.1 miles for all you non-runners (like myself). After a lot of thought and persuasion I decided, “Ok I got this” “people run these all the time right and have fun.”

So I went to the website only to find out that the race was full and I had to be put on a waiting list. I added my name but honestly thinking that I was never going to be contacted.  So I chalked it up to an opportunity lost and didn’t really give it another thought.

Today while checking my email there I had received an email stating that spots had opened for the race if I would like to sign up. I instantly felt an array of emotions….excited to try something new…surprised that they did contact me…. But most of all nervous and scared!

One thing that you should know about me is I have NEVER been a runner.  Don’t get me wrong I go to the gym and work out to stay in shape because I have to. But I am not one of those people who get the “runners high” or “work out high”.  I think the last time I willing ran a mile was in high school when you had to run the mile much less 3 miles!

But I swallowed my fears and signed up! On May 11th I will be joining a group of my friends to run in the Color Me Rad race in Detroit!

It cannot wait to see what I can truly do…. and prove to myself that this is something that I CAN do!
As I am approaching so many different types of changes I will leave you with this:

“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”
-Barack Obama

I think that this is a great quote to address my limbo state and this is one more step in the right direction to clarity.

  1. Congrats to you for trying to make the most of your current situation. It takes balls to change your career path, but good for you for doing it!!! I've found that running is a great stress release, once you get past the horrible part anyway:) I'm hoping this is something that turns into more than just a race for you and maybe even into a life-long sport/hobbie? You'll have to keep us updated:)

  2. Thank you! I don't think I have gotten to the enjoyable part of running yet but it has gotten easier and easier to make myself do it if that makes any sense. I hope that its becomes a long term thing :)

  6. This looks so fun! You will have to let us all know how the race goes in a couple weeks! Do people on the side lines throw paint or something during this race?
